Why motivation runs out: the third-week slump and what keeps going
You were flying for two weeks: minus three, everyone noticed, coffee without sugar — easy. Third week: zero loss, a crisis at work, “what’s the point anyway.” This is not a sign that the method isn’t for you. It’s the pattern everyone goes through, and knowing it is half the protection. Section — motivation and slips.
Where the lift comes from and where it goes
The first two weeks are carried by three things: novelty — the brain loves something new; water — minus 2-3 kg in a week, a feeling of flying; attention — people around you notice. By the third week, the novelty is gone, the water has left, and fat loss continues at 0,5 kg, while attention has shifted. The fuel is gone — but the habits have not yet been built. The gap between them is the slump. Those who know about the gap get through it; those who don’t think, “this isn’t for me.”

Desire after action
The costliest mistake is waiting until you feel like doing something before you do it. It works the other way around: you make breakfast according to the method — and want to go for a walk; you take a walk — and want to prepare dinner properly. The brain gives you motivation as a reward for starting an action, not as an advance. During a slump, don’t wait; do the minimum: one action, 10 minutes. Rituals that remove the need to choose — rituals and tracking.
The slump: what to do and what not to do
| Don’t do | Why | Do instead |
|---|---|---|
| Make it stricter: “it isn’t working — I’ll cut back even more” | cortisol, relapse | change nothing in your food |
| Change to another method | novelty for two weeks and the same slump | make it to week 8 |
| Weigh yourself every day | noise, disappointment | once a week, waist measurement |
| Read motivational content | the feeling of action without action | 10 minutes of walking |
| Wait “until you feel like it” | you won’t | the minimum action |
The minimum action
On a day when you don’t feel like doing anything: breakfast according to the method — it’s one action, takes five minutes, and requires no desire. And 10 minutes of walking. That’s all. Not an “ideal day,” but two anchors that keep the day from turning into “it doesn’t matter anyway.” Motivation will return after them — or it won’t, and that’s okay too: the method runs on habits, not mood. If “I don’t feel like it” lasts more than two weeks and comes with fatigue, this is no longer about motivation: ferritin, TSH, sleep. About “all or nothing” — all-or-nothing thinking.
Frequently asked questions
How can I get back the feeling from the first two weeks?
Not at all, and it doesn’t need to. It comes from novelty. After two months, something else arrives — the calm feeling of “this is simply my food.” It’s better.
Should I do a “reset” — a new program, a complete overhaul?
You can’t. That’s novelty for two weeks and the same slump in the third. Make it to the eighth week with the current one.
My friend is sticking with it, but I’m not — why?
She either has more habits already built, or a better environment. Not more willpower. Look at what she has at eye level at home.
