Morning on the Method: a day that starts without decisions
All successful mornings are alike — not because they are boring, but because there is nothing to decide. Salt water, light on your face, ten minutes of movement, the first meal on schedule — or coffee, if it fits your window. Fifteen minutes, and the day is running on the Method without asking you. Section — rituals and tracking.
Why morning
Three reasons. Cortisol: it should peak in the morning, and light plus movement put it there — in the evening it will fall, and you will sleep. The body clock: 20-30 minutes of daylight in the first hour is the strongest signal for circadian rhythms, stronger than food. Willpower: it is available in the morning and gone by evening; a morning ritual does not spend it, but preserves it. About the body clock — circadian rhythms and meal timing.
Morning in 15-30 minutes
| Step | What | Why | Minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | a glass of water with 1/4 tsp. of salt and lemon | sodium after the night, a clear head, an easier window | 1 |
| 2 | light: open the window wide or go outside | cortisol and the body clock | 10-30 |
| 3 | movement: walking, 5 minutes of mobility, or a short strength workout | blood flow, mood, getting started | 5-20 |
| 4 | the first meal according to the window schedule or coffee black | no decisions about “what to eat” | 5 |
| 5 | look at the plan for the day: food, workout | two decisions for the day are already made | 2 |
Options
Early shift at 6: salt water and light by the window — two minutes; movement — in the evening. Children: water and light while getting ready, movement — walk part of the way. A 16/8 window with breakfast at 11: water, light, coffee, movement — and breakfast on schedule. A ritual is not a to-do list, but a sequence in which each step starts the next. What the first meal should include — breakfast; the whole day — one day on the Method.

What not to do in the morning
- Phone in the first 20 minutes — other people’s decisions instead of your own
- Coffee instead of water — water with salt first
- Deciding “what to eat” — follow the schedule
- Weighing yourself every day
- Sweet breakfast — a roller coaster for the whole day
Frequently asked questions
I can’t function without coffee first thing.
Coffee comes second. A glass of water with salt takes a minute and comes before coffee; that is the difference between “a clear head by lunch” and “not.”
It’s dark in winter — where can I get light?
A 10,000-lux lamp for 20 minutes with breakfast. Or go outside as soon as it gets light — even an overcast sky is 10 times brighter than a room.
How many days until it becomes automatic?
Morning rituals become automatic faster than others — 2-3 weeks, because the “woke up” signal is the most reliable.
